Q & A

1. How does the Helpten service work?

Driving data equipment is installed in the vehicle as a turnkey solution. Every few seconds, the equipment transmits vehicle data (location, speed, driving direction and route) to the Helpten service, where it is recorded. The equipment uses a GPS signal to locate the vehicle.

The service is implemented by using telematics equipment that contains a vehicle computer made in Finland (by Aplicom), GSM/GPS antennae and cables, a GSM subscription and a SIM card for data communications as well as automatically updated maps.

Customers can access our web service with their personal password and utilise their data by producing various reports. For example, the service includes ready-made report templates for the employer and tax authorities, and the desired driving data can easily be transferred to these templates with just a few clicks.

2. How is the installation carried out?

Use of the service requires the installation of vehicle equipment at an installation shop authorised by Helpten (with the exception of the Helpten Quick service). A suitable time and place for the installation is agreed with the customer. The installation can also take place on the customer’s premises, such as in a car park. The installation of the equipment takes approximately one hour. The Helpten service is immediately ready for use after installation, and you will receive personal credentials to our service.

3. What is installed in my vehicle and how is this done?

A driving data computer with antennae and a SIM card for data transfer are installed in the vehicle. The equipment is installed under the dashboard with no visible traces, and only an antenna and a journey categorisation switch remain visible. If your car has multiple users and you want the service to incorporate a driver recognition system, this will also be installed in the vehicle. If you order the Helpten Navigate service, a Garmin navigator will also be installed in the vehicle.

4. Will the installation leave any visible traces?

No. The driving data computer will be fixed under the dashboard, where it is not visible. The only visible component will be a journey categorisation switch, affixed with an adhesive pad, and a driver recognition system, if you have chosen one as an extra feature.

5. What happens after installation?

After installation our service is immediately ready for use. You will receive a personal user ID, password and instructions on how to use the service by e-mail. If you have any further questions, feel free to get in touch. The Helpten services include technical support from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, Monday to Friday. At other times, you can send us an e-mail to helpten(at)helpten.fi and we will get back to you as soon as we have received your message.

6. How can I use the Helpten services—do I need new software or updates for my computer?

Nothing new is needed. A computer, a web browser and an ADSL-level connection are all you need to make use of Helpten. You can access our web service at any time (24 hours a day) with your personal and protected password. Everything, including map updates, happens automatically within our service without service interruptions or system updates to your own computer.

7. How do I get access to the smartphone application?

The mobile application based on the Helpten service can be downloaded from App Store, Google Play and Windows Store. You will find the application by searching for “Helpten Private” and "Helpten" for fleet management users. You can use the application with the same credentials you use in the web service.
